Dermal Filler Dissolving
What is Dermal Filler Dissolving?
Dermal filler dissolving is a cosmetic procedure that removes or reduces the effects of dermal fillers, typically those made from hyaluronic acid (HA). It involves injecting an enzyme, usually hyaluronidase, into the areas where the filler was placed. This enzyme breaks down the hyaluronic acid, allowing the body to absorb and eliminate it
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this treatment for?
Dermal filler dissolving treatment can be for a number of reasons:
- Undesirable Results: If a patient is unhappy with the appearance after filler injections, dissolving offers a way to reverse or correct the outcome.
- Complications: Dermal fillers can sometimes lead to complications such as overfilling, asymmetry, or lumps. Dissolving can help resolve these issues.
- Infection: Infections near the filler injection site can cause immune reactions, leading to swelling and hard lumps. Dissolving the filler may be necessary in such cases.
- Late Reactions: Sometimes, swelling or lumps can occur months after the initial injection, requiring the filler to be dissolved.
Please note this treatment is not something that I offer in urgent situations to other practitioners. If you are experiencing serious pain, changes to the skin colour or pustules forming following dermal filler injections, please contact your injector.
Do I need a consultation?
You are legally required to have a face-to-face consultation prior to this treatment with a Registered Healthcare Professional, who can legally issue a prescription. Nurse Lee is a licensed Independent Nurse Prescriber with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
During the consultation your medical history will be taken and a discussion around your desired outcomes.
The consultation will take place in the comfort of your own home.
Can the treatment be the same day as consultation?
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the treatment I will not be able to complete the treatment immediately.
This is due to having to order the product from the pharmacy. The product is a prescription only medicine and requires prescription processing time and then delivery.
However, the whole process should only take a few days and then treatment can take place.
What should I expect during the treatment?
As the treatment is completed in the comfort of your own home there will be some initial setup required by Nurse Lee. This will include setting up a seating area, ensuring the treatment area is clean, mixing and drawing up of the treatment. You will also complete a consent to treatment document and photographs will be taken.
Once this is completed and you are comfortable, a medical cleanse of your skin will be completed to reduce the risk of infection. A pre-injection reassessment will be carried out of the area to target and a recap of the planned treatment with yourself.
A patch test will be carried out on your forearm with a small injection of saline as a control and a small amount of dissolving agent. You will then need to wait whilst I observe for evidence of serious allergic reaction. If there is no evidence of reaction the dissolving treatment will then proceed.
The treatment will start and using a very fine needle, small amounts of dissolving agent will be injected into the areas that are to be targeted. The procedure can be uncomfortable for some people. Firm massage of the area will also be completed.
Once complete you will be reminded of the aftercare advise for the treatment.
When will I expect to see results?
The timeline for seeing results after dermal filler dissolving varies, but the effects will become increasingly noticeable in the weeks following your treatment.
Following injection of the dissolving agent the hyaluronic acid begins to breaks down, and the body absorbs it naturally. Results typically appear within 1-2 weeks but often there is some inital swelling in the injected areas.
You may also require a further session to ensure that all dermal filler has been broken down.
